As we step into 2025, MAYCHAM Hong Kong and Macau reflects on a remarkable journey, having celebrated our 10th anniversary in 2024! This milestone marks a decade of fostering connections, promoting collaboration, and supporting the growth of businesses across Hong Kong and Macau. Now, we are excited to embark on the next chapter of our journey.

A Decade of Transformation

Since our establishment in 2014, MAYCHAM has evolved from a fledgling organisation into a vibrant community that empowers its members to thrive in an ever-changing business landscape. Over the past ten years, we have experienced significant growth, both in membership and impact.

Key Areas of Growth

  1. Expanding Membership:
    • Our membership has grown exponentially, reflecting the increasing recognition of MAYCHAM as a vital platform for businesses. We now represent a diverse array of industries, creating a rich tapestry of expertise and resources. This growth has enabled us to provide tailored support and advocacy for our members.
  2. Diverse Events and Networking Opportunities:
    • Monthly Happy Hours: Every first working Monday of the month, we host a lively Happy Hour, providing a relaxed atmosphere for members to network, share ideas, and build relationships. This regular gathering has become a cornerstone of our community, fostering camaraderie and collaboration among members.
    • Delegation Trips: Our exclusive delegation trips offer members unique opportunities to visit key sites and organisations. These trips include behind-the-scenes corporate site visits, meetings with industry leaders, as well as touring popular cultural sites, allowing participants to gain valuable insights and forge connections that can lead to potential collaborations.
    • Nasi Lemak Talk Series: This series features renowned speakers who address key topics relevant to our members. Past keynote speakers include Dr Lee Kai Fu, Prof. Yeoh Eng Kiong, Mr Shan Weijian, Tan Sri Andrew Sheng and Malaysia’s MITI Minister YB Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz. The Nasi Lemak Talk not only serves as an informative session but also as a platform for engaging discussions, allowing members to explore pressing issues and trends in the business world.
    • Intercham Partnerships: We actively collaborate with other chambers of commerce to create joint events and initiatives. These partnerships enhance our network and provide our members with broader access to resources and opportunities across different sectors.
    • Berita Quarterly Newsletter: Our quarterly newsletter, Berita, keeps members informed about the latest news, events, and insights from the chamber and the broader business community. It serves as a vital communication tool, highlighting member achievements and upcoming opportunities.
    • Annual Lo Hei Dinner: A vibrant celebration that highlights our cultural heritage and fosters community spirit. This cherished tradition brings our members together annually to partake in the symbolic tossing of the Lo Hei, a Chinese New Year ceremony celebrated in the Southeast Asia, representing the sharing of prosperity and good fortune. It serves as an important occasion for networking and strengthening connections within the MAYCHAM family, reflecting our commitment to unity and collaboration as we embrace the opportunities of the new year.     • Merdeka Nite: Formerly known as the Merdeka Ball, this annual celebration of Malaysia's Independence Day is a highlight of our calendar. It brings together members and friends for an evening of cultural festivities, networking, and camaraderie, celebrating our shared heritage and achievements.
    • SingMa Golf: This friendly annual golf game, co-organised with the Singapore Chamber, promotes friendly competition and networking among members. It’s an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow professionals in a relaxed setting while enjoying a round of golf.
    • Students Trust Fund: Our commitment to education is reflected in the establishment of the Students Trust Fund in 2016, designed to assist Malaysian students studying in Hong Kong. This fund provides financial support and resources to help students achieve their academic goals. To-date, the fund has helped 143 students, collecting donations totalling $1,978,887, with $1,276,000 in grants awarded to students. This fund reflects our dedication to education and nurturing future leaders.
  3. Advocacy and Representation:
    • MAYCHAM has established itself as a trusted voice for our members, advocating for their interests in various forums. Our proactive engagement with local governments and industry stakeholders has strengthened our influence and ability to effect positive change.
  4. Educational Programs:
    • Our commitment to professional development is evident in the diverse range of workshops and seminars we offer. These programs are designed to enhance skills, share best practices, and equip our members with the tools they need to succeed.   5. Community Engagement:
    • We believe in giving back to the communities we serve. Over the past decade, MAYCHAM has initiated various social responsibility projects, from charity events to sustainability initiatives.   6. Financial Position
    • In the fiscal year ending March 2024, MAYCHAM Hong Kong and Macau proudly reported a robust audited net surplus of $1,287,000 at our 10th Annual General Meeting. This impressive figure not only highlights our organisation's financial strength but also underscores our commitment to prudent financial management.
    • The total members' funds amounted to HK$3,973,000 as of 31st March 2024, showcasing the collective financial resources and stability of our membership base.
    • The healthy surplus reflects our dedication to fiscal responsibility and strategic planning. It symbolises our capability to navigate economic challenges while upholding a stable financial base. This achievement is a result of careful revenue generation, cost-effective practices, and thoughtful investment strategies that ensure the sustainability and growth of our chamber.
    • We are well-positioned to explore new opportunities, expand our initiatives, and provide enhanced support to our members and community. This surplus not only signifies our financial stability but also serves as a foundation for future endeavours, enabling us to continue fostering connections, promoting collaboration, and driving positive change in the business landscape of Hong Kong and Macau.
